New exhibition ‘Wood Compositions’ by artist Koos Lina will be open between 6 February – 3 March 2026 in Portiersloge Groningen.

Koos Lina creates objects from discarded pieces of wood she finds on the street, in containers at construction sites where renovation or demolition is taking place. These materials seem to have reached the end of their useful life. By transforming them, she gives them a new beginning.
She often encounters the wood while cycling past. Sometimes she hesitates, asking herself whether to take the pieces with her. When she does, she turns back and collects them. Each fragment once belonged to a human-made object — perhaps a chair someone once sat on — and therefore carries a history. Traces of use and wear remain visible: discarded wood in a state of past glory.
Through new forms and compositions, Koos Lina brings new life into these forgotten materials.

Haar objecten bestaan uit oude stukken hout die ze op straat vind, of in containers waar een verbouwing of sloop plaatsvindt. Hun dienst zat er op, dachten ze, maar mooi niet, ze geeft ze een nieuw leven door er iets nieuws van te maken. Die houtjes komt ze meestal tegen op de fiets, of liever gezegd, ze fietst ze voorbij en denkt dan, zal ik die meenemen?
Als het lukt haar schroom te overwinnen, keert ze om en raapt ze die op. Al deze gevonden materialen waren ooit onderdeel van een door mensen gemaakt voorwerp, een meubel waar men op zat, of een huis, of wat dan ook, een voorwerp met geschiedenis. De versleten sporen zijn nog te zien. Afgedankte stukken hout, in een staat van vergane glorie.
Koos lina probeert ze weer in een andere vorm en andere compositie te laten herleven.
